【Site Visit Diary】At the Substation Site, I Saw the Equipment “Glowing”

Blossoming Everywhere, Wintop's Power Project Adds Another Station

The Liyuan Smart Substation Project is another successful implementation of Wintop's power communication products across the country. In the core communication network system within the station, Wintop's independently developed "Four Unifications" power switch serves as a crucial communication hub, undertaking tasks related to the entire network architecture's equipment deployment and system coordination.

Opening the cabinet, rows of silver, rack-mounted Wintop power switches are lined up neatly. As the indicator lights blink, it marks the moment when they officially connect to the “nerve center” of this station. Each machine, in a professional manner, silently safeguards the high-speed interactions among various systems within the station.

As key projects for the State Grid and China Southern Power Grid continue to be advanced, Wintop's power communication products are increasingly entering more smart substation sites and are widely used across the five major links of the power system. With stable and reliable performance and high quality, they operate steadily in over a thousand substations nationwide, continuing to write a new era chapter for “Wintop Manufacturing.”

True “hard power” must withstand the harsh tests of the field.

The moment I walked into the “secondary equipment” room of the substation, I instinctively held my breath. The cabinets stood tall like walls, and the sounds of devices running blended with the noise of fans to create a tense atmosphere. The entire room was almost airtight, filled with heat waves and faint electromagnetic pulses. Hundreds, even thousands of devices are deployed here, encompassing protection devices, control systems, automation equipment, communication management units, metering modules, and various auxiliary facilities, all running in parallel at high density, complex and interleaved, yet without interference.

High-frequency electromagnetic radiation, the interaction of protocols between complex systems, the hot and stuffy indoor environment, and fiber splicing that stretches for hundreds of meters—all these harsh conditions place extremely high demands on the performance and operational capabilities of every device. Stability, resistance to electromagnetic interference, wide operating temperature range, and protocol compatibility—each parameter is not just written in the product manual but represents the real “hard core” technology that operates within the system.

The scene is quiet, the technicians are focused.

The room is very quiet, yet exceptionally busy.

Technicians from various equipment manufacturers are busy working around their devices, with no chit-chat or unnecessary exchanges. The entire space feels like a high-speed running precision machine, where every person and every action is preparing for the final system coordination.

Some are checking links item by item against a large topology diagram; some are sitting cross-legged in front of equipment, occasionally modifying configurations on a computer or standing up to check device interface statuses; some squatting for hours, sweat rolling down their cheeks, yet staying focused. There are no tables or chairs in the field; everyone sits on the ground and uses a piece of cardboard to rest for a few minutes in the corner before immediately getting back to debugging. High temperatures, stuffiness, continuous work—no one shows a hint of impatience. Every action here conveys the same attitude: serious, focused, and error-free.

This is not an ordinary project—this is part of the national power engineering, where every adjustment is linked to the lights of thousands of homes, and every verification concerns the safe operation of thousand-kilovolt power systems. They bear the mission of building a solid communication foundation for the national energy system. In such a field, “reliable communication” is not just a slogan but a fulfillment of responsibility.

“The equipment is glowing here, and we feel honored.”

Just before the debugging was completed, I took a photo—

The whole row of equipment was glowing brightly while in operation. In that moment, I suddenly understood: each device is “shining.”

Sending forth the light of performance, safeguarding the stability of the system, and bearing the responsibility of the mission. They are not just products off the assembly line; they are a solemn answer sheet delivered by Wintop to the national energy system.

As a manufacturer focused on industrial network communication for 21 years, we understand: equipment isn’t just about installation. The real test happens in every coordination before operation and during stable running over a decade. Facing the harsh challenges of electromagnetic interference, system compatibility, and environmental temperature, we are not just producers but also protectors.

I finally understood why Wintop's product director said, “Every time I report to the headquarters of China Southern Power Grid, I carry a sense of superiority.” It's not about boasting but about the confidence that comes from reliable, self-developed domestic products. We are also more determined: if we do it, we will make the highest-quality products, and if we deliver, we will provide customers with equipment they can rely on to operate for ten years.

On the way back, I had a brief chat with two technical engineers.

Wen Gong said that before joining Wintop, he would accompany his family to the park every weekend. Now on weekends, he often stays at home because he is afraid of missing a client’s call, “I can’t set my phone to silent; I’m always ready to handle issues.”

Ban Gong said that on weekdays, he can sleep until he wakes up naturally, but on weekends, he is often awakened by customer calls, “Because customers’ issues can’t wait.”

This is a sense of responsibility. This is the attitude of Wintop people: wherever the customer is, we will be there; we are the most solid backing for our customers.

The substation is the nerve center of national energy;

The communication system is the bridge for coordination;

And Wintop is the most trustworthy cable on this bridge.

We may not always be seen,

But we must achieve, “trustworthiness.”

Wintop Optoelectronics will continue to safeguard every energy route in China with stable product performance and professional team services.
